Just before the pandemic

It was business as usual.  A group called “Braintree Grange” organized Neighbors Night at the Odd Fellows Hall.  It was a social gathering; however, several members were not able to attend because they didn’t receive their invitation in time.  This committee engaged in other social activities as well.

On Saturday, August 31, 1918, just before the pandemic, the newspaper was advising Braintree residents how to reduce energy usage in the form of heat, especially tips on reducing coal usage.

On Tuesday September 24, 1918, an election was scheduled for the town of Braintree and a reminder was printed in the local newspaper. It was a warrant for state primaries.

Also, just before the pandemic, on August 31, the local newspaper printed information on Braintree residents who travelled or relocated to other places.  It was a feeling of normalcy before any social distancing, quarantines, or travel restrictions were put into place.

Also with school expected to return to normal as usual, the newspaper printed a list of students entering Thayer Academy in Braintree, for the Fall Term, along with the town of their residence.  Among them was a member of the Girl Scouts Troup1 Red Roses who fell ill including Louise Ferris Cass.
